we're proud of the products we create

From gasoline, to jet and diesel fuel, and lubricating base oils, the Richmond Refinery makes products people use every day.

In the early 1900s, the refinery was configured for basic distillation and produced basic refined oils and chemicals. From 1950 to 1970, investments were made in hydrocracking, desulfurization and other conversion units as the refinery grew to focus on making transportation fuels. From 1980 to 2000, more investments were made to meet new regulations and install the lubricant plant with Isodewaxing technology. From 2001 on, the refinery has focused investments on reliability, safety, energy efficiency and protecting the environment.

We’re proud of the products we create. Gasoline produced at the Richmond Refinery fuels 20 percent of cars on Northern California roads. Approximately 65 percent of planes at major airports in the Bay Area use jet fuel made at the Richmond Refinery. The Refinery is the only facility on the West Coast that produces lubricating base oils. Our revolutionary fuel additive Techron, which helps keep car engines clean, was invented in Richmond and now is found in gas stations throughout the world.

The Richmond Refinery produces the cleanest fuels in the country to meet California standards. This helps reduce pollution and protect the environment.
