Chevron supports programs that expand access to high-quality K-12 education throughout the West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD). Working in partnership with WCCUSD, Chevron helps fund programs that reinforce core academic skills for the students and help build leadership capacity for teachers and administrators.
Chevron works in partnership with the West Contra Costa Public Education Fund (The Ed Fund) and Donorschoose.org to support STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) projects developed by local teachers. A contribution from Chevron will directly fund K-12 classroom projects submitted by local teachers who register through Donorschoose.org, a national non-profit that connects public school teachers in need of classroom materials with donors who want to help.
Chevron has had a long partnership with The Ed Fund. We havecontributed over $520,000 to The Ed Fund, a non-profit organization that provides funding and resources to schools, teachers, and students in the West Contra Costa Unified School District. In its 27-plus years, The Ed. Fund has awarded more than $2.5 million in grants and programs directly to schools, given nearly $400,000 in college scholarships, provided resources to more than 5,000 educators, and served as the non-profit umbrella organization for more than 50 education-focused community groups in the five cities of West Contra Costa County.
The Ed. Fund has a powerful impact on student educational experience and Chevron is proud to support their important ongoing work including:
- Student enrichment through the arts. The Ed. Fund supports live musical performances, visiting artists and professional teacher development.
- Grants made directly to teachers and schools to support creative projects and programs that make learning come to life for students.
- College scholarships for West County high school seniors needing financial assistance.
- Awards for teachers, staff, and volunteers nominated by their peers for extraordinary contributions to schools and students.
- Honoring excellence in teachers at the annual “Excellence in Education” fundraising event, open to the public. Proceeds support West County public schools, students and teachers.
Finally, Chevron encourages our employees to donate their time and talents to local students. Chevron employees are engaged with the following school district programs and programs that support academic achievement in the schools: Richmond High School Robotics Program, Richmond High School Engineering Academy and Junior Achievement Success Skills at Kennedy High School. As an example Chevron employees volunteered at the Bay Area Rescue Mission Back to School Block Party, providing school supplies to children in Richmond and West Contra Costa County.
